They are a set, and are wooden. The coffee table has a slit on the top, as someone sat on it :), but can be disguised as I did until I got new set. It's not really noticeable, plus a few marks on the top, which can be sanded down. The side table is fine. I would prefer them to go together if possible.
Light coloured wood, and the usual size for the items.
