Indenture (Lansdown)
This is an indenture, that is to say a legal document that was cut in two with a squiggly edge to provide proof that each half was genuine. It documents the lease of Rose Yard on the north side of Minster Street in Reading, Berkshire for 5 shillings in 1811. Francis Millard was the lessor and Edward Vines, Thomas Newell were the lessees. Tenants are listed as Watson, Crop, Saunders, Lambourn, Franham, Bitmead, Mason, Wise, Taylor, Phillips, Day, Cooper, Kerton, Martin, Holloway, Hunt, Higgs, Waite, Pearce, Johnson, Holton and Mrs Pearce. Dimensions are approx 50cm(h)x60cm(w). Wax seal.
