Does anyone [IDEALLY WITHIN 15 MILES OF BUILTH] have any unwanted offcuts of machined wood?
I’m trying to repair / reinforce the lids of two 1940s/50s ottomans.
One is already in use on my landing: the hardboard of the lid didn’t survive my grandson enthusiastically bouncing on it. I can’t strip it down, because the material matches other storage, and can’t be re-used: it has to be repaired from the inside.
The other WILL be a seat as well as a toy chest, and there’s an historical crack in the lid.
The landing one needs battens along the sides no more than 3⁄4” / 2cm x 1” / 2.5cm, and any pieces of batten / plank to go across the lid no more than 2cm deep, and a minimum of 12 5/8” / 32cm long.
The toy chest one needs battens 1 1⁄2” / 3.3cm x 1 3⁄4” / 4.3cm, and bits of plank / battens 17 1⁄2”/ 44cm long and no more than 1 1⁄2” / 3.3cm deep.
I’m trying to do this on a shoestring – and using a borrowed and rather blunt old tenon saw!
ANY pieces of wood that you have which might fit the bill would be very much appreciated.
