From time to time a crow or a jackdaw has fallen down a chimney into our spare bedroom. In its panic, the poor bird makes a horrible mess of the room.
The ideal solution would be a bird guard at the top of the chimney to prevent birds getting access and falling down but it is extremely difficult to reach this particular chimney to fit one.
Obviously we try to make sure that whenever possible (ie, except when we are actually away from home) we check every day to see if we need to rescue an involuntary intruder, but it would be good to minimize the mess. And, of course, it would be easier to see the situation when we do our checking if we didn’t have to check in hiding places.
The photo shows the kind of thing we have in mind.
