I have 10 of the second picture (plant in pot) and 2 of the second one (tall purple flowered).
1. Is Nicandra physalodes (common names - apple of Peru or shoo fly plant.) For more info search the real name followed by RHS find a plant). Grows very fast and will reach a metre high and flower this summer. It will seed around your garden freely, but easy to recognise and pull out if not required. An unusual and attractive plant. Grown as an annual.
2. Is the well known and fashionable Verbena bonariensis. A very tall - 1 m+ - but upstanding wiry plant. Will also seed around the garden, but never a problem. Best grown amongst other herbaceous perennials, over which it will tower and add interest to a border. For more info search the real name followed by RHS find a plant
