Mariner 4 Mars Photos. According to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariner_4 Mariner 4 performed the first successful flyby of the planet Mars, returning the first close-up pictures of the Martian surface. These are the original photos produced by JPL. The first image I uploaded is an index for the Mariner photos. The next two images I uploaded are the front and back of picture #13. There were 22 in all, but some of the best ones are missing from this collection.
Provenance: Lew Kaplan was my mentor/boss/friend. When he retired I received these photos. He was a scientist at JPL during the Mariner time frame and was active in research of the Mars atmosphere.
