One of these was recently sold on Etsy, described as follows: Clear vintage "Noizy Chef." Made in France. Solid glass.
"A nifty little kitchen gadget- it is supposed to rattle in the bottom of the pot when it reaches a boil. Handy for the visually impaired - hear the water boiling and simmering. The different temps should rattle at different speeds/sounds.
I've never actually tried it - but it looks neat. Has a little curved section on the top rim and bottom rim. Sometimes these are sold as ashtrays - and the curved sections would probably make it possible to use it as an ashtray -or even a chopstick rest or paint brush rest. Weighty enough to use as a paperweight.
Approximately 3.25 inches across."
