This microscope came from a local university when they were upgrading their bio lab. The magnification ranges from 15x to 30x. It's a binocular microscope (you use both eyes, and can get a sense of depth) for use on objects that aren't mounted on slides (the focal length is something like 8 inches).
This is *not* portable desktop equipment that you can just take out as needed; it needs to be mounted to something. It is heavy, and the 4.5" wide head is attached to a pivot on a 20" long 1-1/4" swing arm. Getting this attached to a table will require some creative use of clamps, or possibly woodworking skills.
...but it produces a gorgeous, clear image and would be great for naturalists or electronics hackers.
