Only works when plugged in, the old (NiCad probably) batteries no longer hold a charge. Plug in and give it a minute and then it works, not as powerful as a straight plug-in model but does the job. Use the tiny brush to brush off hair after each use, and the tiny bottle of oil on the blades (and then run it briefly) every couple of uses to keep it running smoothly.
