Philips Steam Generator Iron (Earls Barton NN6)

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE REPLYING. Philips Provapor steam generator iron. Working, but has a couple of issues that might need attention.
1. The fabric sheath on the steam tube/electrical cable between the steam generator and iron is missing, as it deteriorated. The iron is still usable, but care needs to be taken, as the steam tube gets very hot when in use and the sheath gives the user protection.
2. When last used, the soleplate 'caught' on a cotton garment, even when not on the highest setting. This left some tiny specks on the soleplate, which I tried to remove with vinegar/bicarb, but it doesn't feel like it is completely smooth to me. I didn't want to try anything stronger or more abrasive, as it might scratch the coating on the base.
The iron is an older model and the steam generator section is quite heavy compared to more modern irons.
