Gadget to make parallel lines (Petworth/ Park View)

I am informed by a helpful freecycler that this is a woodworker’s device. The wing nut moves freely even though it looks a bit rusty.

I took it because it looked useful, but actually I have never found a use for it. It might make a cool “conversation piece” if your decor runs to the antique kitchen and farm implements, distressed furniture finish, bunches of dried herbs type of thing.
