White Status desk fan, offered free as a repair project for an electrician or electrically competent hobbyist.
It only works on the highest speed setting and no longer oscillates. Sometimes the blades need a helping push to get going like an early propeller aeroplane! No smoke or unusual smells noticed during use.
AI suggests a failing capacitor could be responsible for the starting problem, but this hasn’t been checked. Replacement capacitors of this general type are available online for roughly £4–£7, subject to finding the correct specification.
Offered as faulty, for repair or spares rather than normal use. Hopefully a useful little project for someone with the right skills to save from landfill.
