Apple iPod Shuffle (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Promised
1Gb pink iPod Shuffle. About 20 years old I think. Still works fine. I just put a couple albums on it to test. Includes USB dock. You need to load music via a computer. It's small: 2.75cm x 4cm. The entire gizmo is a spring clip to clip it to a lapel or pocket or your glasses! So prehistoric it doesn't have BlueTooth! You'll need to plug in a pair of headphones/earbuds.

Remington Rand portable typewriter (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
All manual typewriter. Very clean. About 14"x14"x6" in its case, weighing 15lbs. According to this Etsy post, one that looks identical is from from the 1940s: This one looks to be in good mechanical shape overall EXCEPT that its return spring is disconnected so it doesn't advance and so is NOT useable in this condition. See the third photo where I'm holding the loose end of the spring cable. If you're looking for a mechanical challenge, then this is for you. If you're looking for a beautiful office centrepiece, then this is for you.

Logitech Mouse (Mortimer & Coxwell)

Logitech 5 button, scroll-wheel, ergonomic, model M510 wireless mouse with USB receiver. Takes 2 AA batteries (rechargeable work fine). Seems to momentarily loose connection so sort of 'hesitates' periodically but that may be my system and not the mouse.

Spare Mac computer parts (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
Useful if you're repairing older Macs or MacBooks or assembling a Hackintosh. • 3x RAM SIMMs -2Gb, DDR3 8500 from around 2011. • 2 MagSafe power cables, version 1 & 2 (since the cables break more often than the transformers burn out) • 9x Apple IR remote controls A1156 - see • 1x BCM943602CS Bluetooth/WiFi card • 1x BCM94321COEX2 Bluetooth/WiFi card, Broadcom, with antennae Also a bridge adapter: "A JM20330-based adapter to use M.2 SATA SSDs in place of 44-pin IDE DOMs" as described at . I've had it for so long I've forgotten where I used it.

Motorola pager (Mortimer & Coxwell)

Was on Rogers AT&T service 25 years ago. No idea what model it is. It won't be able to connect to any service. Still powers up with a AA battery. Like the BlackBerry I posted, a good museum piece.

RIM BlackBerry 8700 (Mortimer & Coxwell)

In good condition but no battery. Also, there is no network to which it could possibly connect. This will be nice on a museum shelf beside your Motorola Flip-phone. About 20 years old, I think. Maybe you hackers can do something interesting with it.

Apple MagSafe 1 Airline Adapter (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
Apple Magsafe Airline Power Adapter for Macbooks Model A1214 Part MA598Z/A Delivers power (but doesn't charge battery) on older MacBooks and MacBook Pros from airline power sockets. it works with in-seat DC power ports available on many commercial airliners — both EmPower ports and 20mm ports (using the included adapter). Adapters can be had to convert to newer MagSafe 2 Macs. Maybe even to the newest MagSafe 3 or USB-C if an adapter exists or can be hacked.

Mirror back chair w. storage (Mortimer & Coxwell)

Natural finish pine, 28"x19.5"x72". This is a good piece of 'front hall' furniture. Hang hats and coats, store gloves, mittens etc. A little too big for our narrow front hall so needs a new home.

LaCie Rugged HD enclosure (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
This is an older IDE internal drive interface device. It has a drive in it now that is dead but if you have another IDE internal HD that needs an enclosure then this might do it. Includes both a FireWire 400 and a USB cable but is missing its power adapter. Uses a fairly common 5vDC centre + adapter.

Internal HD (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
Toshiba 2.5", 160Gb SATA hard drive. Currently formatted to FAT 16 for PC but can be reformatted to any other for Mac or Linux. Good for older laptop because it's kind of small but will fit into your desktop PC or an external power case for any computer use.

Free:
Digital AV interface (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
Canopus ADVC-100 audio and video digital interface. Old device which allows stereo audio and composite video to be digitized into a computer via an old FireWire 400 connection. It also has connections for S-video and ⅛" audio jack. See the photos for an overview of the different connections available. There are adapters available to convert that FW 400 to FireWire 800, another to convert FW 800 to Thunderbolt and then finally one to convert TTB to USB-C. Makes for a long chain of adapters but I'm including a FW 400 cable and a FW 400 to FW 800 adapter to get you part way there. Also takes a smaller format FW 400 plug and I'm including a cable to fit that too. This was designed for taking video off video tapes and old video cameras so not very high resolution sources. It would also do fine for digitizing just audio.

30Gb external HD (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
USB 2.0, 2.5" HD drive, 30Gb (that's pretty small. Many USB thumb drives/memory keys are bigger than this now.) Internally the drive connects to a IDE interface so not upgradable to newer larger drives which are all SATA interface. Not in photo but USB cable is included.

Belkin USB 2.0, 7-port, powered, hub. Includes power adapter and USB uplink cable. Not so fast but great for low data devices like mice, tablets, and sound adapters.

Thunderbolt to eSATA & USB 3 adapt (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
StarTech Thunderbolt to eSATA and USB 3.0 adapter. Connect an external storage drive on the eSATA and another on the USB 3 port or even a USB hub to the USB port and then multiple USB devices to that. Thunderbolt ports were common on Apple Mac hardware in around 2011-2016. (Possibly on some PCs too.)

Google ChromeCast (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
A little gizmo that plugs into a power source, an HDMI port on your TV and then you connect to your WiFi and using a phone app, you log into a Google account and then it can stream Netflix and such to the TV. (I guess you'd also need the streaming service account too.) You may have to search for instructions online. Googling it would be a good option for this one.

USB car adapter (Mortimer & Coxwell)

Automotive 12V to Mini USB power adapter. Mini USB is the first small format plug; before micro USB or USB-C. It's for some older device. This one was made by BlackBerry.

Free:
Serial to USB converter (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
"Keyspan" brand adapter to allow connection of two serial devices to a USB port. The serial ports are 8 pin DIN sockets as used in classic Mac hardware for modems, AppleTalk network, digitizing tablets, etc. The last drivers which worked would have been for early Mac OS X - so probably 15 years ago. So, limited application but maybe just what you need! (got a Centris or Quadra in the basement?)

Hoover vacuum cleaner (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
Working well: Small (apartment size) vacuum cleaner on wheels so it follows along behind for floor cleaning. Comes with attachments for upholstery, floors, dusting & crevices, two extension pipes and adapter for and two paper collection bags. It has a reusable fabric collection bag in it now but that can be swapped out for a paper bag. The connection between the hose and vacuum is held closed with a wire loop. That works fine (and has done for 35 years).

Damaged MacBook Air (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
Rose Gold , 13", Intel i5. Probably 2019 or early 2020 model. Processor is fine but the screen is broken (glass layer and LED panel) but seems to work on an external display. See photo of bottom right corner of screen. I've re-installed fresh macOS Sequoia so it's clean of data. Good project Mac if you've got a similar model with a good screen but maybe damaged processor. Maybe useable with external keyboard/mouse/display as a 'desktop' instead of a laptop. Battery is OK. Power adapter not included. Will charge on any USB-C charger which is 30W or better.

Ammonium Bichromate (Mortimer & Coxwell)

I have 340g in a packet to give away. Originally purchased in 1979 from "Advanced Canada" for photo emulsion silk-screen printing. Info about this chemical: If doing an internet search, note that results may return for ammonium dichromate instead of ammonium bichromate.

Piano parts for art/sculpture (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Gifted
I disassembled a piano to dispose of it. I saved the action so have a box of various parts in the movement. From the keys to the hammers. See the photo for examples. Lots more of each of these four kinds of parts. I've lready given a few away and will keep a few for my own use but the rest can go either all to one of you or some slection of the heap. Think creatively...

Wireless home phone (Mortimer & Coxwell)
Expired
ZTE WF721 wireless (celular) phone base-station. Plug in one or two phone sets or into your domestic phone wiring system to connect all your current wired phones. You just need to insert a SIM card to convert your home phone system to cell service. Used but in perfect working condition. 4"x5", Includes 5v power supply. *Here's the catch.* This is a G3 celular device and some networks require a minimum of G4 devices. This will no longer work on Rogers network. I don't know about the other locally available cel networks. You may want to pass this on to someone you know who is still able to use 3G devices.

photocopier (Mortimer & Coxwell)

The East York Concert Band (a local charitable performance group) has need of a photo copier for internal light-duty administrative use. Could be a little multi-function all-in-one gizmo with a scanner on top and a fax and network card with the fax and network card broken but still scans and prints locally. Laser would be good, no need of colour. BTW, the band is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year!
