Free: Car pack (hole) / waterproof fabric (Crestwood, NW DC) This Rightline car backpack worked great for us until on one trip we put too much weight in it and didn't use the bottom straps, and one of the top straps came unhooked from the top of the tailgate as we drove on I-95 (I suspect a bump plus the excessive weight plus our failure to use the bottom straps caused the hook to lift free). The dragging along the asphalt before we managed to pull off wore through one end of the bag and damaged one of the bottom frame poles. We have since moved on to a hard shell carrier, but with a little repair and careful strapping, this bag could still work great as a back pack or (perhaps less risky) car top carrier. Alternatively, it could be cut up for the amazing, tough, waterproof vinyl/nylon fabric. Bag has padded handle straps on each end, straps on each end with hooks to hook over top of tailgate or trunk, a long strap to run on inside of tailgate and around back of bag, and straps to hook bottom of bag to underside of rear bumper or frame. It zips open and closed and has a rain flap to cover the zipper all around. It even has a little pocket with a clear back in which to insert your car license plate (which would otherwise be hidden by the bag when hung on the back of the car). Free: Electric tooth brush, brush heads (Crestwood, NW DC) Expired Couldn't get this rotary toothbrush to work but it may be repairable. Brush heads appear new and unused. Takes two AA batteries.

Free: Storm door closer (w/o hardware) (Crestwood, NW DC) Expired This screen door closer works but lacks the (presumably procurable) pins and brackets to attach it to a door and door frame. Piston has been bent once and straightened, pulls out and retracts fine with the pneumatic function working well. Third photo shows it extended (and held by the vice grips just so I could take the photo before it retracted).

Free: Eve Room temp/air monitor (Crestwood, NW DC) Gifted This HomeKit-compatible device is 8-10 years old, and we just don’t need it anymore, but it still works fine as far as I can tell. It measures temperature, humidity, and volatile organic compound (VOC) level. The company is still around and you can still download the app for it (though it probably works with any smart home app). The app will let you download measurements for the three things it measures. Can’t speak to how accurate the humidity and VOC measurements are. But I can tell you that when our old housemate would sit about 10 feet away and sip his evening bourbon, the Eve would send a poor air quality alarm.😊 VOCs from the booze.

Free: 6 incandescent light bulbs (Crestwood, NW DC) Gifted All work, tested them today. Watts range from 100 to 40. Not recommended for normal lighting since they use so much power, but posting for those with special needs or situations (need the heat, sensitive to the light of LEDs, etc.).

Free: 21 spiral compact fluorescents (Crestwood, NW DC) Gifted All these work - tested them today. If you zoom in you can see the wattages, which range from 25 to 11. Note that like all fluorescent bulbs, these contain mercury gas so need to be handled with care and ideally used in protected fixtures.

Free: Bike wheel reflector (Crestwood, NW DC) Gifted Originally designed to attach to a spoke and provide sideways visibility. That piece is missing, but with a couple of zip ties you could secure it just fine.

Free: Adjustable night light (Crestwood, NW DC) Gifted This Leeo “smart” night light was made to listen for smoke and other alarms going off in your house and notify you when it heard them. The company went out of business in 2019, so now it’s just a nice LED night light, with a ring that lets you dial in the desired brightness. Plugs into an outlet.

Free: Music box mechanism (Crestwood, NW DC) Gifted If I remember correctly, this was from a gift: a little statuette of a ballerina or angel or something like that, that rotated when wound up. It fell and the little figurine broke. The music box part works fine though, and could be used to make a new rotating figure thing or just a music box for jewelry or whatever. Free to a good home. App seems not to let one post videos so I can’t show it working and let you hear the song, but happy to email or text such a video to anyone interested.

Free: 2012 MacBook Air for parts (Crestwood, NW DC) Gifted This nice little MacBook Air fell victim to a spilled glass of milk several years ago. I’m handy and like to fix stuff, so I started taking it apart, carefully attaching screws to a piece of tape and labeling them, … and then got pulled away by parenting, or work, or god knows what. Haven’t managed to get back to it in several years, so giving up on it. Presumably some parts got fried by the liquid milk, but presumably other parts are in perfectly good shape, maybe even the screen? Battery pack? I don’t really know. If nothing else, the hardware is fine: screws, frame, keys, etc. The hard drive is missing - I think I may have canabalized that for storage. Power cord (taped) included. See photos. Request: 6-foot pole (Crestwood, NW DC) Expired I’m mounting an anemometer (wind meter) on our roof and need a 6’ pole (or longer) to mount it on. Could be PVC, a metal tube or pipe, or wood dowel. Probably needs to be at least 1” diameter. If anyone has something like this sitting around gathering dust, I’d be delighted to take it off your hands. Thanks for considering.

Free: Dell keyboard for parts or repair (Crestwood, NW DC) Expired This keyboard worked great for me for several years, then when I got a new laptop and had to use an adapter it suddenly started having problems. Maybe a dozen or so keys don’t register with the computer. Physically seems fine, inside looks fine, so not sure what the issue is, don’t have time to pursue repair further.

Free: LED lamp for parts or repair (Crestwood, NW DC) Expired This was my wife’s bedside lamp - has a clamp and USB port for charging stuff. Worked well for a few years, then would only flash on every two seconds. I tested power supply, it seemed faulty, so I got a new power supply and wired it in, and as soon as I plugged it in, smoke started rising from the circuit board and something fizzled out. Now unresponsive. Any hobbyist want it for parts or to try to repair?
