Free: Revamp your old Windows laptop or computer (Apley TF1) (This post has been pre approved by Telford Freegle Volunteers) Extend the life of your "old" Windows 7,8 or 10 laptop or computer! This is a FREE SERVICE to revamp your old, slow Windows laptop or computer by installing the beginner-friendly, modern, fully supported Linux Mint system instead. Linux Mint is fully supported by community volunteers, and will receive updates for this version until 2029, when the current new version can then be installed, again for free. Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. Computers still running windows 10 after that date will no longer receive important bug fixes and security updates, leaving users increasingly vulnerable to malware, viruses and unable to get support in the event of problems. A lot of computers can't be upgraded to Windows 11 because they lack special hardware that this version requires, but are otherwise perfectly usable and with Linux installed will work well for years to come. How it works: You drop off your old laptop with us, and we will install Linux Mint on it, and you can collect it again a few days later, ready to go. You must make sure you take a backup of any data, documents, pictures or other files you want to preserve to a USB device, prior to the upgrade, as all data on the computer will be erased during the upgrade process. We can help you to restore the data afterwards. I can offer this service for MOST Windows based computers as long as they are less than about 15 years old and meet Linux Mint's minimum hardware specs (which are quite low). Unfortunately I CANNOT OFFER THIS SERVICE for Apple computers, laptops or tablets, Microsoft Surface tablets, Google Chrome OS laptops, or some, rare "net book" laptops.

Free: Samsung np350v5c laptop with fresh Linux Mint install (Apley TF1) Gifted NEEDS A NEW BATTERY - AVAILABLE ONLINE FOR ABOUT £15. 15" screen, intel core i5 CPU, 12gb ram, 460gb hard disk, WiFi, DVD drive. Complete with mains power supply. Keyboard and track pad are good. Some signs of wear, but clean and presentable, runs at a decent speed. This laptop was donated to me so I could give it a new lease of life by installing Linux on it. IT IS NOT RUNNING WINDOWS so it won't ruin windows programs, but there are thousands of free programs available on the Mint software manager for all sorts of uses. Ideal for web browsing, word processing, spreadsheets, playing DVDs, digital art, coding etc.

Request: Old slow computers for fixing up and re-Freegling (Apley TF1) I'm working to save old Windows 10, and even older computers, from landfill. I take old computer kit, fix it up with Linux instead of Windows, and re-offer it on Freegle as a working, usable computer. If it's truly dead, I will strip it down for spares and use the parts to fix other computers I get in. Microsoft is killing support for Windows 10, so there are now a lot of computers that need to be "retired" because they won't be getting security updates any more, and can't run Windows 11. If you have one of these, don't throw it away! I've settled the "Linux Mint" version of Linux as it's really easy to use, runs well on older hardware, and is well supported with lots of ways to get help and support.

Free: Re-feeegling HP Pavilion laptop revamped with Linux Mint (Apley TF1) Withdrawn FAIR CHANCE POLICY - I WILL WAIT UNTIL WEDNESDAY EVENING TO CHOOSE A RECIPIENT. REQUIRES NEW BATTERY - CAN BE PURCHASED FOR ABOUT £12 ON EBAY but can be run from the mains. Fresh install of Linux Mint 22.2 long term support free operating system. This computer was donated by another kind Freegler when they bought a new laptop. It arrived with me with no operating system at all as they had it wiped clean for security purposes. I have installed Linux Mint on it to give it a new lease of life. It was last running Windows 10 which is now discontinued, but cannot be upgraded to 11, so Linux is the best option to keep this lovely laptop running. Features: 15" wide display screen, 8gb RAM, massive 2 terabyte (2000gb) hard disk, AMD A8 CPU, DVD drive and B&O speakers. Keyboard is compact, wide with a numeric keypad. Trackpad works. MAIN BATTERY NEEDS REPLACING. Includes mains power supply. Signs of cosmetic wear and tear, a few minor cracks to the casing but nothing that affects use. This computer is suitable for web browsing, word processing and spreadsheets, but it's NOT A GAMING PC, though you can run most free Linux based games on it - installable from the Linux Mint software manager (like an app store).

Free: IBM ThinkPad T530 laptop (Apley TF1) Gifted Running latest Debian 13 Linux operating system (NOT Windows or Mac). Old but still powerful, but a bit rough round the edges. Core I7 intel CPU, 16gb ram, 120gb SSD drive. Dvd drive, WiFi, power supply included. Battery is ok but will used. Ideal for web browsing, word processing, coding or workshop. Missing front buttons for touchpad, but others still present and working. Used this laptop myself until recently when I got a newer laptop. First to collect gets it.

Free: 2x Old rack mount IBM servers (Apley TF1) Gifted UNTESTED. 2x IBM system x3550's dated 2007 and 2008. Product id 79784AG and 7978KFG respectively. Both xeon CPUs, The kfg one has 4x 146gb sas hot swap 2.5" drives, the other has 2x146gb both have raid controllers I think. They're both 1u 19" rack mount servers, and have a dvd-rw drive. Unknown memory. CPU is a Xeon but unknown type (probably 2 or 4 cores). Ideal for learning about how server hardware and software works. Could be used for a home lab. Take one or both.

Free: Acer mini tower pc - not working (Apley TF1) Gifted Might be fixable but I've already spent too long on it. Has Debian Linux installed but no picture when booted up. Cpu fan is also finicky - may need replacing. 8gb ram 500gb HDD intel core i5 cpu. Case is a bit tatty but usable. No keyboard, mouse or screen. Good project for someone with patience and installation media - could be made into a decent workstation, or just broken down for bits. Was running Debian 11 up until about a year ago.
